Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
longest book i've ever read so far and i didn't think i was ever gonna finish it, let alone in only 7 months.
i really love the writing style, it's easy to follow but also so beautiful and detailed. i love how characters and their personalities, habits, expressions, and features are written. mitchell does a great job here.
my favorite part has to be (i think) part 3. or at least the part during the civil war where scarlett is left behind by rhett and vows to never starve again. such an engaging section, i couldnt put the book down. i sped through it.
part 5 is where it falls flat, im really not a fan of it. not a fan of not a fan of rhett and scarlett together. even rhett's character here was annoying as fuck. also, i almost bursted out laughing when bonnie died. that shit was too fucking funny!!!
for characters, im mixed on scarlett but i really do like her for the most part! she's selfish and bitchy, sure, but she's also intelligent, headstrong, and badass at times. she's a great protagonist, even if her selfishness remains at the end of the novel.
i was fine with rhett even if i thought he was lame at times. in part 5, his bipolar ass character annoyed the shit out of me. rhett crying makes me happy, he can leave.
i dont have much to say about ashley but i really liked melanie too! she was so great and loyal and scarlett's relationship with her was also fun to see.
gerald and ellen were great. and i really did like scarlett's sisters suellen and carreen, ESPECIALLY carreen. i loved her, she was adorable. i really wish she got more focus since i loved her character so much.
