my favorite movie posters

my favorite movie posters

i'm really just doing this because i want something out for november.

i love movies though, and one of my favorite parts of a movie is the poster, which draws the viewer in. let's go through some of my favorite movie posters ever! in no particular order or ranking.

this is your sign to follow me on letterboxd @ s4ndras

the silence of the lambs (1991)

i like the colors here, the moth also looks great. i read the book, but never watched the movie. even if it isn't really my cup of tea, this poster still looks so cool. also i can't get over how cool the title sounds. "the silence of the lambs." "the silence of the lambs"....

paprika (2006)

never watched this movie but WOW look at all that detail! super pretty! i like the bright colors, so pleasing to look at!!

gone with the wind (1939)

AMAZING poster. this is genuinely one of the best movie posters i've ever seen, so epic just like the book and movie. well crafted too, sheesh! look at all those details! the painting is phenomenal

empire of the sun (1987)

never watched this, but the title sounds cool. also wow this is a real good poster, i i love the detail and irony here. and also the white background and red sun...for the empire of the sun....(japan)... i need a life.

all about eve (1950)

i actually didnt like this movie but i appreciate all the arrows that show me that, yes, the movie is all about eve.

possession (1981)

ASSCRACK. okay but there are so many amazing details here, the incomplete body, the background of black, the hands on her shoulders, the blood dripping, the blue light in her face, the heart on the "i" that i just noticed, it's really cool!!! makes me wanna watch the movie asap... too bad i never got to it last month. i suck.

election (1999)

i dunno what the hell is going on, why is there a dude in her mouth? i watched the movie and still find it odd. the movie was odd itself so i guess it makes sense. still a great poster though, draws me in. i like her expression and the 90's font flipped text on the side. great cropping too!

women on the verge of a nervous breakdown (1988)

very unique poster that sticks out like a sore thumb among others. very colorful and i like all the feminine details. i should watch this one.

it happened one night (1934)

what DID happen one night? well, this poster was made. i like the calm blue hue of it, and the stars, really great touch. both the actors look great here, especially claudette colbert... actually only claudette looks good here, she looks gorgeous! beautifully painted!

ecstasy (1933)

hedy lamarr looks like marlene dietrich here, it's not just me that sees that, right? anyways... very simple but also beautiful poster! straight to the point and the warms colors add to the ecstasy of it all. hedy's expression captures it perfectly too!

honey (2003)

i just really like the yellow-orange colorscheme here. jessica alba also looks fine as hell here.

moonstruck (1987)

oh look, it's cher!! i like how simple this one is. cher's pose, the font, the moon in the background, iconic. her pose and expression actually match the meaning of the word "moonstruck" too. so cozy.

myra beckinridge (1970)

raquel welch serving cunt right here. i like the cozy colorscheme and the two fonts. and the star in the back. it adds pizzazz!

the stepford wives (1975)

i didn't like this movie and i couldn't finish it, but the poster is really nice and adds to the theme of the story. also incredibly simple too.

vertigo (1958)

another movie i disliked, i do like this poster and i think it's really unique. the limited color scheme, the patterns, the posing of the characters, it's good stuff.

valley of the dolls (1967)

i love love LOVE this movie and i love the simple yet effective movie poster to go along with it. the two-toned pill showing the highs and lows of the pill, just iconic!! i think the book doesn't need to be there though, and it sucks that anne isn't on the poster, but i still like it a lot

beyond the valley of the dolls (1970)

yeahhhh, i think you saw this one coming. i really like this poster. I like the curve they're standing on (the valley) and the picture on the bottom adds to the movie's campiness. lotta fine women here too, including my girl cynthia myers, but i'll admit i'm confused on why some of them were included when they had 0 impact on the story and got like 2 seconds of screentime at most. still iconic though, camp classic.

a clockwork orange (1971)

this movie was weird as fuck but this poster is SO COOL. such amazing details and i can't get over alex's expression. so sinister. definitely one of my top favorites, i dont know what else to say.

back to the future (1985)

absolutely iconic. one of the best posters for one of the best movies ever made. everything about this one just screams cult classic. so cool. from the expression to the special effects to the title, all of it is amazing.

the children's hour (1961)

i like that it's purple, and the courtroom-style sketches of the actresses (and actor) are great and fit the plot of the movie, since it's based on acccusations and shit. the expressions of karen and martha are amazing and so fitting for their story. also this is one of the best movies ever made, PLEASE watch it !!!!

strait-jacket (1964)

this is one of the greatest pieces of art i have ever seen. another poster better than the movie though the movie is still pretty good. the agony in lucy's face accompanied by the hard swing of the axe is so great. the title being the blood is genius. the bangle bracelets and the blue hue of lucy are also great touches!! absolutely amazing poster gahhhh i love it so much

american psycho (2000)

i did not like this movie although i really tried, the poster is really good though, i like patrick's expression, which is present in the entire film (christian bale's performance is iconic). killer looks indeed! fits the title AND the plot well!

the red shoes (1948)

i know there's another more common poster but i REALLY like this one. vicky's leap, shoes on, resembling both her role in the ballet and the ending, i like that boris is green here, it provides a great balance and i think it goes along with his character....or something.
there are many other great posters, and people who actually know wtf they're talking about with film, but this is all i have for now! thanks for reading!
